Arrests made in Hong Kong poker game
As a stark reminder that you cannot play Texas hold’em just anywhere, the Wall Street Journal has reported that a Merrill Lynch banker and other people from the financial industry have been charged with taking part in an underground poker game in Hong Kong.
The story, reported by the Associated Press and published in the Wall Street Journal website, said New Zealand national Michael Tan Boon Suan and seven others had been charged with gambling in a gaming establishment. For a first offence the charge carries with it a maximum penalty of three month in prison and a fine of HKD$10,000.
The actual game where the arrest were made took place in March of this year and more than HKD$3 million in cash was seized. Poker is illegal in Hong Kong although it's available in numerous locations in nearby Macau.
